Community Health Services offers a variety of early childhood programs and services including:
Prenatal Classes – Prenatal mothers in early to late stages of pregnancy and their partner or support person are invited to attend. One – on –one education sessions are also available.
Postnatal Contact – The Public Health Nurse will help make the move from hospital to home successful. Public Health Nurses visit parents and their newborn in their home. Mom and baby are checked and the nurses are available to answer questions. A certified Lactation Consultant is also available for consultations about breastfeeding.
Child Health Clinics – Public Health Nurses offer basic health services, including immunizations, to all preschool children. Health education is provided on various topics including the child’s growth and development.
Hello Parents – Group parent information sessions are offered on an “as needed” basis. All aspects of child health and development may be included.
Early Childhood Team – The team includes an early childhood psychologist and a speech and language pathologist. They provide specialized services in the areas of speech and language and child development.
Parent Mentoring Program – Volunteer mentors support and strengthen families by developing positive relationships with parents within their communities.
Paint a Happy Smile – This fluoride varnish program is offered to all children ages 3, 4 & 5. Children younger than 3 can participate through a referral at Child Health Clinics. The goal is keep baby teeth healthy and cavity –free.
Nutrition Services – Baby food making, prenatal nutrition and one to one counseling offered.
